Oxford’s Scott Defelice explains how his company and 3D printing will impact medtech.

Scott DeFelice, President, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Oxford Performance Materials, Inc. (OPM), holds a BA from the University of Connecticut and an MSc from the University of Strathclyde, Scotland. Prior to founding OPM in 2000, Mr. DeFelice was Co-Founder and Vice President of Marketing at Oxford Polymers, a compounder of engineered thermoplastics, where he led the firm’s innovation, strategy, and business development activities.
Mr. DeFelice has grown OPM to become a recognized leader in 3D printing and high performance additive manufacturing (HPAM™). A proven entrepreneur in the fields of cutting edge materials and additive manufacturing, DeFelice’s company has developed a range of advanced materials technology focused on a high performance polymer, poly-ether-ketone-ketone (PEKK), and delivers enterprise level, functional end-use products to the biomedical, aerospace and industrial markets as the first company to successfully apply additive manufacturing solutions to PEKK. Under his direction, OPM has become a pioneer in personalized medicine as the only company to receive FDA clearance to manufacture 3D printed patient‐specific polymeric implants. He also started OPM’s aerospace and industrial activities, which have been fulfilling critical development contracts for parts in a range of aircraft applications in commercial, defense, and space, with its proprietary OXPEKK® materials technology.
In addition to OPM, Mr. DeFelice sits on the board of directors of The Foundation for Orthopedic Reconstruction (FOR), a non-profit institution dedicated to supporting the use of additive manufacturing technologies in healthcare. He also serves on the Sustainability Committee of America Makes – the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute. Mr. DeFelice is married with two children and is active in cycling and golf.
