Welcome to Our Medtech Talk Podcast Channel

Too often we define the Medtech sector by the number of dollars raised, IPOs helped or companies sold. But the focus neglects the very foundation of the sector - the People. Join the Medtech Talk Podcast each week to hear from entrepreneurs, investors and executives who spend their days developing the tools that make sick people well and health care more efficient.

Randall Recaps Journey from Teaching in High School Classroom to Leading Medtechs as a CEO

April 20, 2017

Rick Randall landed his first job in Medtech on a bet. Today, he’s one of the sector’s most experienced CEOs. In the first part of a two-part interview with Medtech Talk, Randall, the CEO of OMNIlife science, the robotic-assisted surgery company, explains how serendipity has helped guide his path into the sector. The opportunity to earn more than he did as a high school science teacher led Randall to sell the first balloon angioplasty device in the 1980s, putting him at the front of the wave of Medtech innovation that would follow. Good fortune also led him to secure his first CEO position at Target Therapeutics Inc. “I didn’t have a master plan to be the CEO of a medical device company,” Randall says. “Every job I had I was so engaged with what I was doing I wasn’t thinking long term.” But Randall has built an extraordinary career. In this first half of the podcast, Randall explains how he found his way to Target, Innovative Devices, and Conceptus. Next week we’ll explore Trans1 and beyond.
