TransEnterix President and CEO Todd Pope took the helm of the start-up to create a new single-port surgery system. Little did Todd know he’d be running a global robotics company that’s now moving into multiple markets, including the US. In this interview, Pope takes us through the career path that led him to run the start-up in 2008. He then walks us through the company’s aggressive moves to develop its Spider Surgical System before making an ambitious move into robotics. Now, TransEnterix is rolling out its new Senhance Surgical Robotic System.

Mr. Pope has spent more than 25 years working in key leadership positions within the medical-device industry. Prior to joining TransEnterix, Mr. Pope served as worldwide president of Cordis, a multi-billion-dollar division within Johnson & Johnson’s medical-device sector. He previously held a number of leadership positions within Johnson & Johnson and Boston Scientific.
Mr. Pope has a special passion for managing emerging start-ups that have disruptive technologies with the potential to change the landscape of current standard of care.
