CEO Stevens Says HeartFlow Took No Shortcuts to Commercialization, Raising $240 million Series E

John H. Stevens, MD, was too excited to sleep when he first heard what HeartFlow’s technology could potentially do. Eight years later, he’s sleeping a lot better, having secured $240 million to fund the company’s commercial rollout of the HeartFlow Analysis system. Overview: HeartFlow has built a strong financial argument for its imaging system. Surprises: This stuff belongs on Star Trek. Very cool. Takeaway: “There are no shortcuts.”

Dr. John H. Stevens joined HeartFlow in 2010. He has had a distinguished career as a healthcare professional, and possesses extensive experience in founding and leading technology-focused companies. He was the co-founder and chief technology officer of Heartport; co-founder and executive chairman of Amp Resources; and, co-founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Sundrop Fuels. Previously, Dr. Stevens was an adult and pediatric cardiac surgeon at Stanford University Hospital and Lucile Salter Packard Children’s Hospital in Stanford, Calif. He received his post-graduate training at Stanford University and The Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children in London, England. Dr. Stevens currently serves on the boards of directors of HeartFlow, Apnicure, Clene Nanomedicine and KaeMe.org, of which he is also the co-founder and executive director. He is also the managing partner of Headwaters Capital Partners. He received his BS from the University of Utah and MD from the Stanford University School of Medicine, where he was also an assistant professor of cardiovascular surgery.
